MiraCosta Zoom how-to videos from kinesthesia

Delight note that some of the following resources may refer to the version of Zoom that MiraCostans used in fall 2020 or earlier; MiraCosta Zoom is at present hosted at https://miracosta-edu.zoom.usa rather than https://conferzoom.org.

  • Teaching with Zoom (Autumn 2020 workshop) – CSIT kinesthesia member Rick Cassoni provides a i-hr overview of Zoom, from the ancestry of signing upward for a Zoom account, to recommended settings within your account and cosmos of meetings, to the basics of using Zoom for both live and recorded online instruction.
  • Connecting with Students in Zoom (Spring 2020 workshop) – Letters faculty fellow member curry mitchell shares a few elementary activities and methods for scaffolding an interactive, collaborative Zoom workshop with students.  curry also discusses flexible and compassionate practices–such every bit attendance policies and creating asynchronous means for participation–to ensure we're using Zoom to assist each other. (Annotation, this session included 10 minutes in breakout rooms but the recording was non paused, so you can skip from when that happens at effectually infinitesimal 39 ahead to minute 49 of the recording.)
  • Sharing your iPad screen on Zoom – Math kinesthesia member Angela Beltran-Aguilar demonstrates in this curt (under 3 minutes) video how to use an iPad as your sharing source for teaching with Zoom.
  • Capturing a separate screencast of a Zoom session – Psychology faculty member Robert Kelley demonstrates in this very short (under ii minutes) video how to capture a portion of a Zoom session, excluding pupil participants, in order to exist able to share the recording more widely without FERPA concerns.

Captioning for Zoom

  • Enabling Automated Real-Time Captions in Zoom – Nosotros now have access to automatic captions inside our Zoom meetings – both live and recorded. While automated captions are a swell resource for our students, they are not a replacement for professional captions when those are needed.
  • Zoom cloud recordings machine-transcribe and caption recorded Zoom sessions within a few hours (typically) of completion of the recording. Zoom's interface makes it easy to gear up up the captions and so they are fully accurate.
  • If yous take a educatee who requires live captions and you are using Zoom, please contact MiraCosta SAS.
    • Y'all will need to brand a 1-time change in your Zoom account settings to enable live captioning, and at the start of each Zoom session with captioning, you will need to assign the captioning office to the proper person in your coming together. See directions for both.

Authentic info about Zoom recordings

To: All faculty, IS Deans

You lot may have received messages recently indicating that your Zoom recordings may be deleted. This message is intended to clarify what is happening, what might happen, and what nosotros recommend.

  • No Zoom recordings will be deleted imminently. You may hear from colleagues in the CCC system nearly a message from the Chancellor's Office saying this would happen next calendar week. That decision has been reversed, and information technology turns out it wouldn't have practical to us at MiraCosta anyway, since MiraCosta now has more than command over its Zoom business relationship (many colleges in the arrangement nonetheless do not).
  • At that place is, however, a longer-term concern about the storage of Zoom recordings. Cloud storage is not space and not costless, and Zoom recordings can be large. If we do non manage our individual recordings well, we could face involuntary deletion of recordings in the future.

What should you do at present?

  • Log into your Zoom business relationship and clickRecordingson the left-hand menu. Select all recordings that you do non need and delete them.
  • If you accept any meetings set upward for automated cloud recording but y'all rarely use the recordings, consider changing that setting and then that you only record what you demand.

In the time to come, If our Zoom cloud storage infinite reaches its limit, users may need to download recordings out of Zoom as MP4s and upload them into other video storage/streaming systems such as Canvas Studio, 3C Media Solutions, or YouTube. This can be a fourth dimension-consuming process for long recordings, and yous may also lose the transcription and conversation records, and you would also need to change your links in Canvas courses and elsewhere to reflect the new location of the recording.

So, it's in anybody's involvement to make sure we are but keeping Zoom recordings that we actually need, and regularly deleting the rest.

If a decision is ever made to automatically delete certain Zoom recordings, the message will come from a MiraCosta Higher employee. It'south our hope that we this won't be necessary, or that if it does happen, information technology would simply impact videos that are no longer in use.

If you lot need assist with managing your Zoom recordings and/or coming together settings, please contact the employee help desk.

Connecting your Canvas Grade to Various Publisher Tools

If you are using a publisher website for materials and assessments in your course, you lot may be able to connect your Sail form to the publisher course site and/or integrate publisher-provided tools so that students tin connect to the publisher resources from Sail without a separate login. Some publishers also allow for 'deep integration' (or 'deep linking') between your Canvas course and the publisher site, so that assignments and quizzes are individually attainable in your Canvass course and also integrated with your Sail grade book.

NOTE: When you lot adopt a third party tool for use in your class, it is your responsibleness to ensure it is compliant with state and federal regulations and MiraCosta policies. Please advisedly evaluate the tool for issues such as accessibility and student privacy. Contact Jim Julius, kinesthesia manager of online education, if y'all have any questions about this.

McGraw-Hill Connect & Campus

McGraw-Hill Connect

McGraw-Hill Connect is some other popular publisher being used by many instructors. When using McGraw-Loma Connect with Canvas, there are a few significant differences from the process of using Pearson with Sheet. One is that you lot must copy your course on the McGraw-Hill Connect site earlier pairing it to your Canvas grade. You cannot create a re-create of the course while pairing, like you lot can in Pearson.  A second difference is that after pairing, you demand to 'deploy' your assignments on the McGraw-Colina site in order to enable deep integration with your Canvas class. And third, when copying your course for some other semester or section, McGraw-Hill has an option to "Re-link assignments from copied form", which takes care of the duplication upshot that Pearson has.

Here are some resources on using McGraw-Hill Connect with Sail:

  • Rick Snyder, at Valencia Higher, made a handout that walks you through integration of McGraw Hill publisher materials with Canvas.
  • Pairing your Canvas course with a new Connect business relationship or an existing Connect account
  • Deploying Connect assignments to Canvas
  • Students registering for Connect from Canvass
  • Students taking Connect assignments in Canvas
  • Copy your Sail course for the next term

McGraw-Hll SIMnet

SIMnet LogoSIMnet works similarly to Connect, but the deep integration works a little differently.  Beginning enable the McGraw-Colina SIMnet navigation link in your grade by going to Settings and so the Navigation tab (as pictured at the top of this postal service), and so run across:

  • McGraw-Colina SIMnet Canvas Deep Integration Instructor Pairing (pdf)
  • McGraw-Hill SIMnet Canvas Deep Integration Teacher Assignment Deployment (pdf)

Pearson MyLab & Mastering

Pearson My Lab / Mastering Logo

Pearson MyLab & Mastering has tools and resources for a number of unlike disciplines, and luckily they all utilise the same interface for deep integration with Canvass.

Rick Snyder at Valencia Higher made a handout on the integration of Pearson publisher materials with Canvas.  Note the caution nigh copying courses, which may end up with duplicate Pearson deep links if you are non conscientious.  See besides these resource:

  • Visit Pearson's MyLab & Mastering LMS Integration Services site for preparation resources and videos on using their tools with Sail.
  • Pearson too has videos on Youtube on using MyLab & Mastering with Canvas
  • For insructions for students, see Student Registration Instructions: MyLab & Modified Mastering with Canvas (pdf) and Go started: MyLab & Mastering for Canvass.

W.W.Norton

W.W. Norton LogoW.W. Norton primarily does books, but they also take tools similar InQuizitive.  Run across:

  • How to Add a Norton Digital Learning Tool to a Canvas Course
  • Sail – How to add an InQuizitive link with LMS Integration
  • and the Video: Adding InQuizitive Links with LMS Integration

Is your publisher not on this list?

Many LTIs tin can exist installed at the course level by a faculty member. Contact your publisher for more information and directions on how you tin install their tool at the course level. And delight keep in mind the annotation at the top of this page near faculty responsibility for compliance of 3rd-party tools with land and federal regulations and MiraCosta policy.

Requests for the installation of Global LTIs must exist fabricated to the Online Teaching department through your department, and will simply exist done when multiple faculty are using the tool. We are not able to add global LTI'south on demand. Adequate evaluation and testing is required prior to installation of Global LTIs. As mentioned in a higher place, private kinesthesia may independently install publisher LTI tools in their Canvas courses.

Some individual publishers can be found in the Canvas App Centre, which is the mechanism for private Sail users to add together LTI tools into their courses. Here are a few guides to the Sail App Center.
